Fabulous Location; Pre-Wedding Shoot!

There are times when I just love editing photos. When opening each photo, is as if I were opening a Christmas present.

Lipton loves to do pre-wedding shoots. Finding a location that’s new and fresh is always a challenge. Getting the lighting right is another challenge. Hoping the couple wears a great set of outfits that compliment each other is also something to think about. And then, there’s the couple themselves – hoping they respond to the camera. Lipton’s a pro at drawing out the couple and so I’m confident that any shoot he does goes well. It’s always fun to see what he’s captured, whether it’s at the beach, in the midst of antiques, or in a park-like setting.

One of the good things about a pre-wedding shoot is that the couple becomes used to the camera. I once had a bride who clucked her tongue and then looked away every time I went to take a photo of her. I had to quickly get her comfortable in front of the lens and break her of that habit. Others blink constantly and that’s a fun one to work through. It’s a challenge, but that’s what makes our work interesting.

Here are some photos of Taniya and Dilshan’s pre-wedding shoot, taken in our new secret location. This couple was definitely not shy in front of the lens. Lipton and the couple had fun at the shoot and I had fun editing the photos!

In Their Face – Portraits

My favorite photo to take is of a person. Landscape photography is gorgeous, yes, but to me, there is nothing as great as to see inside your subject and capture it in the camera.

Lipton Jayawickrama and I are such a good team when we take portraits. Sometimes he sees the best light, sometimes I do. Sometimes he can get the subject in the right mood, sometimes I do. I have a trick to bring out the inner secrets of my subjects. And only they know what that ‘trick’ is. I learned it from my voice coach when I was performing my poetry. He made me dig deep, deep, deep and be okay with showing it to him. Not all people are prepared to dig deep, especially for a photo shoot, but somehow I can make it happen. So can Lipton; but he has his own technique.

Sometimes it’s just a natural connection between photographer and subject. And trust. It’s magic.

That’s what I love about portrait photography.

Here are some of Lipton and my portraits. Enjoy!

Getting There 2

Am a bit shaky but at some point I have to start getting back to normal life. This is my attempt. Sorry that I don’t have an adventure to take you on, but I will see what I can find in my photo archives and at least share something with you there.

I would love to hear from some of you, find out how it’s been without LucysBuzz to keep you company. Or am I being delusional?

I’m going to post some pictures of Lipton’s TV personality friend, Samudra. Ones that he took of her for a recent photo shoot. He really knows how to bring out the gorgeous look of people, male or female.
